Redesigning a national mentorship program’s brand to center accessibility.

College Advising Corps is an education-focused nonprofit dedicated to helping students from all backgrounds get the support and guidance they need to achieve their dreams. Partnering with over 30 universities in 15 states, College Advising Corps places recent college graduates in under-resourced high schools where they advise students on their post-secondary options.

The brand needed to look and feel authentic and relatable to prospective advisers while also appealing to students whose goals might range from community college, trade school, or military service to attending a traditional four-year institution.

The original logo was evocative of a collegiate banner that didn’t feel inclusive of the all the future paths available to students. In redesigning the logo, we kept a visual connection to the organization’s history while deconstructing it to create a sense of movement and dimensionality with overlapping sections that resemble a door opening outward.

The brand system took the deconstruction even further, breaking apart the elements of the logo to create playful patterns and graphics that are balanced by a sophisticated color palette and typography that can pair well with most partner brands.

Because College Advising Corps works through partnerships with colleges and universities, each with its own set of brand guidelines, the organization’s brand needed a system of elements that could remain consistent and recognizable when used alongside other logos and on a variety of platforms.

“We were able to create a strong brand identity that reinvigorated our position as an impactful nonprofit, and enabled us to create a clear, consistent, and cohesive brand identity that resonated with our audiences. This helped increase our brand awareness, boost fundraising, and stand out against our competition.”
